Nana Francisca Schottländer
Let the mountain come to you
Denmark / Austria
Danish artist Nana Francisca Schottländer works in an interdisciplinary manner at the intersection of dance, performance, installation, and conceptual art. At the centre of her work is the use of her own body as a living tool for research and creation. Her works are site-specific and utilise strategies of immersion, co-creation, and long-term observation.
Schottländer investigates the co-creative potential of encounters between rocks and people, between bodies of stone and flesh. She asks the question: What does it take to build respectful, reciprocal, and intimate relationships with something that is based on such radically different conditions of existence than ours, like rocks and stones? How can more-than-human beings, materials, and resources be perceived beyond their mere usability?
The artist focuses on the reciprocal dynamics between entities of stone, flesh, and water — how they are set in motion through time and space, and influence one another.
