Collectif XY
Möbius
France
The French Collectif XY stands for a bold fusion of acrobatics, dance, and poetry. Together with choreographer Rachid Ouramdane, the nineteen performers have developed an athletic choreographic language that reveals the tension between the individual and the collective. Möbius highlights the courage to acknowledge differences and tells of the challenging yet exhilarating journey each person takes to find their place within a group.
In Möbius, the artists explore the limits of acrobatics through natural phenomena such as murmurations: the fluid flight patterns of starlings that merge into a living swarm. The minimalist white stage design opens up an apparently boundless space that rhythmically fills and empties – a sensitive terrain in which nature and culture, body and mind, merge.
Möbius is an ode to life and to the necessity of creating together as a foundation for survival, renewal, and invention. The widely acclaimed production has been performed more than 300 times in fifteen countries.
"The XY Collective breathes fresh life into the art that is circus performance. Möbius is just like them all – infinitely beautiful." – Philippe Noisette, Les Echos France
