Signal vom Dachstein ... in Sound and Image
An exhibition.
Signal vom Dachstein is a multi-year community art project by the La Strada Festival in the Dachstein region, bringing together many artistic threads. The project began at the summer solstice in 2021: together with local artists, the Dutch artist duo Strijbos & Van Rijswijk created a landscape opera whose overtures approached the glacier from the surrounding valleys. Since then, five local artists – Marie-Theres Härtel, Christoph Huber, Katharina Pfennich, Christoph Szalay and Stefanie Weberhofer – have been working intensively on the further development of their artistic practice in the context of climate change. This comprehensive artistic exploration, combined with various scientific perspectives, highlights the role of the Dachstein Glacier as an archive of natural and cultural history, as well as the current effects of its retreat on nature and culture in the region.
All of this was brought together in an exhibition accompanying the audiovisual installation Signal vom Dachstein and presented in the Marble Hall of Schloss Trautenfels in 2024 and 2025. Now, an updated version will be shown in Graz during La Strada 2026.
